Hello everyone,

Participating in this year's Movember & Sons has been lots of fun and very rewarding for us, not to mention very itchy too! As we near the end of the month, we're excited to announce a special Movember tasting that we will be holding next Thursday, November 29th 7-9pm. Featured will be a great selection of international and BC wines, including bubbly and a limited release dessert wine. We will also have artisan cheeses & breads, charcuterie, an assortment of our favourite gourmet edibles, great tunes and of course some fantastic 'staches will be on display!

The cost is $25 and proceeds will go to our Team Vinostache's Movember fund. Unless you have a hairy upper lip, in which case you get to sip through your 'stache for an even 20 bucks.

Now of course you don't have to be a man to be affected by men's health issues, which is why our offer extends ($20 tix) to all registered Mo Sistas.

We have limited space so please RSVP, ASAP! Payment required at time of booking. You can pay via phone 604.734.8543 or in person at the wine shop.

Hope you'll join us. Come taste and explore some delicious wine + food, share some Movember stories, and raise a glass to the Vinostache!

Cheers,

The Vinostache Family, Broadway Wine Shop

When you love your kid, you do just about anything for them! (Even if it means staying up to 3am making miniature moustaches!)

When Chris and I explained to our son Chase what cancer was, it hit a chord in his 3 year old heart. When he learned of how many loved ones we had lost and how many who survived the big C, Chase was determined to join in on the Movember fight against cancer! But, he couldn't grow a 'stache, so he asked his mama and papa if they could make a special one for him. Of course we complied and voilà, his got his very own moustache pin!

Chase hasn't been shy about what his pin stands for. When people ask him about it, he shares his thoughts about cancer. He also tells them that his mama and papa can make one for them too so that everyone can fight cancer together! One handmade moustache pin turned into a few, a few turned into even more..... and then there was no stopping the production, we were full Mo' ahead!

Available at the Broadway Wine Shop, because of little Chase, are a variety of well-groomed, mama & papa-made moustache pins. All handmade with love for Chase and Team Vinostache's Movember fundraising efforts! Pick one up, or a few of different styles and colours, and pin on your support! All proceeds go towards Movember!

The family at Broadway Wine Shop are participating in the Movember & Sons 2012. They are Team Vinostache and they are sporting their Mo's.

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

I have always had a particular fondness for the fruit wines of Elephant Island. Or at least I have since the summer of 2007, when I found myself ankle-deep in freshly crushed cherries. I have never been so purple before or since. In my two months "on the island" I did everything from label bottles to hull apricots to pour samples in the tasting room, and I savoured every moment. It was quite the experience!

This little winery is one of the gems of the Naramata Bench, a charming and sociable enclave nestled in among the cherry trees of the family's orchard. It is a popular stop with many of the wine tours that come through the Bench, both for its different approach to wine and for its beautiful sit-down tasting patio overlooking the orchards. There is a reason it's become a favourite place to stop for a picnic!

Here at Broadway International, we currently carry EI's Cherry, Pear, and Black Currant dinner wines as well as their Apricot dessert wine and their Cassis fortified wine. I had the Black Currant with my Thanksgiving turkey dinner and will surely bring it out again for Christmas—for my money, it beats cranberry sauce every time. And when it comes to a special dessert theme, there is nothing like the Cassis poured over vanilla ice cream with a little bit of chocolate cake to help soak it up. What a delicious way to warm up on these rather frigid fall nights.

So come pick up a bottle here at the store and then start planning your next trip up to the Bench! And I bet if you told them that Isaac sent you…well, they might even still let you in the door. But no promises.

Goodnight and good wine...

Isaac

Serving Discerning Zombies since 1986...

Being undead is no excuse for being unoriginal. A real zombie wouldn't be caught dead (as it were) showing up with a bottle of the same-old, same-old. And that goes for vampires, skeletons, witches, and Elvis impersonators, too. If you're serious about showcasing your creativity and holiday "spirit," check in with our specialists at Broadway International Wine Shop before popping the cork on the evening.

Looking for a hostess gift with a special dark twist? Darken their doorway with a bottle of Velvet Devil in your bony grasp and get ready to hear howls of delight for your charming cleverness and ghoulish good taste. Hosting an event yourself? Frighten the faint of heart with a pouring of Wicked Red. Count down the hours to midnight with some Moon Curser selections from right here in BC. And this year, the killer comes dressed in white and red: The Killer Pinot Grigio and Killer Cabernet are ready to knock them dead. Or, as Halloween night winds down, treat yourself to a generous goblet of Gypsy Red as your wandering urchins return and you pick your way through the finer selections from their treat bags.

Of course, if none of these happen to tickle your tastebloods, we always have plenty of other pun-free lively-spirited whites and teeth-staining reds to sink your fangs into. Just ask for suggestions.

From our family to yours, we wish you a lively, delicious, and safe Hallowine weekend.

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

It's a question we get asked all the time: When are you going to host a wine-and-kale party, where we can learn more about the wonders of that wonder food, while talking with a celebrated kale expert and sampling exciting local wines?

Oh all right, you've talked us into it.

On, Sunday, May 27th from 3 to 6 pm, Broadway International Wineshop is hosting a special tasting and book launch to celebrate the publication of The Book of Kale by local author—and longtime customer—Sharon Hanna. If you go to only one wine-and-kale event this year, this should be the one.

This is your chance to find out everything about what has been hailed as "one of the oldest and most nutrient-dense vegetables on earth." What makes it such a potently healthy food? Why is it so easy to grow year-round (even in Vancouver)? How can you work it into your cooking repertoire—not just for salads, but for breakfast dishes, soups, and even main dishes? Why are kale eaters among the smartest and sexiest people on earth? Spend a fun and informative afternoon with the Queen of Kale and learn everything you wanted to know—and more—about this incredibly versatile super-veggie.

As for the wine selection, we decided that a local book by a local author, extolling the virtues of an under-the-radar superfood, deserves to be complemented by wines from an often-unsung local region. So we'll be sampling offerings from Neck of the Woods winery, each crafted in Langley using 100% BC grapes, from the Okanagan and their own Fraser Valley vineyard. We think this is the ideal choice to help us celebrate an author from our neck of the woods.

Join us on May 27 and raise a glass to good health, good local wine, the spirit of local entrepreneurship—and a special leafy vegetable that makes spinach look like junk food.

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

The weather is nice, and for that reason we are going to open up some white wine this weekend. We wanted to open up something a little special, and this little wine has been reviewed rather favourably by more than one source (including us). I must give fair warning though, it is an oaked Chardonnay. If that is not your "thing", then you might not like this wine.

However, it is always good to have your cherished beliefs challenged, so it is worth trying a sip just to see if you can find some love in your heart for oak.

Aroboleda 2010 Chardonnay — Chile

"Clean tropical fruits, oak spice and a little minerality. Well balanced on the palate with good acids and a nice finish."

Best Chardonnay-Oaked, Wine Access, Oct/Nov 2011

Who knows, we might have a rosé open as well, so drop in to try some good spring wines that may just become your new favourites!

Cheers,

Chris

Mauaro Veglio, Barolo DOCG "Vigneto Arborina" 2005 – Piedmont, Italy

Canalicchio di Sopra, Brunello di Montalcino 2006 – Tuscany, Italy

Hi Folks,

Easter is here and as usual we have stocked-up on wines that go well with the Easter dinner. We have Pinot Noir, Merlot, Alsation wines, Chardonnays, bubbly, dessert wines and many, many more. Just ask, and we will guide you to just the right bottle!

For our Saturday tasting, and keeping with the spirit of Easter, we will be trying the ChocoVine from Holland. In their own words, it is "The taste of dutch chocolate and fine red wine". It sounds wrong, but it tastes so right! As always, the tasting will be held 3-6, on Saturday, and we will be offering a 10% discount on the wines tasted.

Just a quick note as well, we have a lot of new wines on our shelves from all around the world, so there will be plenty here for the adventurous to explore.

Hope you have a fantastic long weekend!

Chris

Hello Everyone,

This week we are featuring the 2010 Jaja de Jau Syrah from Château de Jau & Les Clos de Paulilles in Roussillon, France. "Jaja" is a slang for the region's delicious full-flavoured, great value wines and is the house selection at the local bistros. This particular wine is from the Dauré family who has long been acknowledged as the premier winemaking family of Côtes du Roussillon.

The wine is described by the winemaker as a "chunky, peppery red with smokey kirsch/blackcurrent and herbs de Provence scents; delicate floral nose, well-balanced tannins and acid; hints of raspberry on the palate". To us, it was a soft and flavourful fruity syrah that is a tasty quaffing wine. Pair this with a good book or good company, and you'll be set.

Cheers!

Hello Everyone,

I must admit that I love Sea Cider Rumrunner. No joke. It has this unique flavor that is inspired by Newfoundland Screech barrels. Tasty, local and organic. Hand pressed, fermented with Champagne yeast then aged in rum barrels. Need I say more?

Cheers!

Hello Everyone,

For this Saturday's tasting we are bringing out a bruiser from down-under! As they say on the back of the bottle, "this one ain't no tea party". It's the Punch in the face Shiraz, that hails from South Australia. So if you're curious what a good old-fashioned whipping from a brute of a wine is like, drop on by between 3-6pm. Don't say we didn't warn you!

As usual, Roger will be here to charm you... and then dish out some punishment. Worry not, to give you a fighting chance you'll get 10% off this knock-out Shiraz during the tasting.

Good luck and remember to keep your chin down.

Cheers!
